Whether you are looking for a post-workout or morning pick me up, a protein shake is always a good idea. I often drink protein shakes for breakfast when I am on the way to work, after a low-impact workout, as a snack, or even for dessert. Rather than draining my dollars at local smoothie shops, I prefer to make my own. I like to see what exactly is going inside of my body and have control over the ingredients.

I used to think that I sucked at making smoothies, but the reality was that I wasn’t getting creative. Sometimes I felt like my smoothie was overpowered by banana or protein powder, but after some practice, I stepped up my smoothie game. It’s all about the portion and texture you want. Don’t like a lot of banana? Use half. Don’t like watery smoothies? Use less liquid and FROZEN fruit. Don’t like water in your smoothies? Use coconut water/milk. Hate whey protein powder? Then use plant-based (I use Orgain)! There are so many alternatives you can use to make your smoothie personalized to your preference.

Below are my top 5 favorite post workout protein smoothies:

Avocado Smoothie:

1 avocado, pitted and peeled

1 cup coconut milk, not canned

1 cup of kale or spinach

1 cup of ice

2 scoops of Orgain Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder

2 dates

I have a weird relationship with avocados where some days I like them and some days they make me want to gag, but this smoothie has never had that affect on me and the texture of the smoothie is cool, icey, and creamy. You can adjust the protein powder amounts as needed, 2 scoops of Orgain Protein powder are equivalent to 1 serving of protein. Since the powder and coconut milk are both sweet, I use 1 date rather than two. If I do not have a date, then I use honey. Greens are optional, but I like to add them to smoothies especially when there are bold flavors like coconut that can mask the bitter taste of kale and spinach.

Berry Blast Smoothie:

1/3 cup frozen strawberries

1/3 cup frozen blackberries

1/3 cup frozen raspberries

1/2 frozen banana

1 cup coconut water

2 scoops of Orgain Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder

Kourtney Kardashian’s Chocolate (Green) Smoothie:

I don’t follow the entire recipe since I do not have MCT oil, E3live, or bee pollen. I use a tablespoon of coconut oil (or just skip this step) to replace MCT oil. I also use a tablespoon of honey instead bee pollen. I don’t have cardamom powder, I have cardamom seeds, so I use 1-2 seeds depending on my mood.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Shake:

1 frozen banana

1 cup almond milk

1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt, optional

2 dates

2 scoops Orgain Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Powder

(Green) Pina Colada Smoothie:

1/2 frozen banana

1 cup frozen pineapple

1 cup coconut milk

1 cup of frozen spinach

2 scoops of Orgain Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder
