Black Restaurant Week is coming back to Atlanta this September! The two-week event will feature events highlighting Atlanta’s premiere, African American owned restaurants, culinary businesses, and food trucks. I had the pleasure to meet one of Atlanta’s finest chefs, Erica Barrett to get a taste of what to expect at Black Restaurant Week’s NOSH Culinary Showcase!
Who is Erica Barrett?
Erica Barrett is a local Atlanta Chef and Entrepreneur. Born in Mobile, Alabama, Erica’s childhood was centered around Southern cuisine. From cooking breakfast at home as a child to selling plates of food at Clark Atlanta University, Erica has always been faithful to her passion for cooking.
Erica’s chef career began after she won Food Network’s Recipe Contest. This experience inspired Erica to pursue her passion for cooking by establishing her own catering company. By 2012, Erica launched her own line of cooking products called Southern Culture Kitchen.
Over the course of Erica’s culinary career, she has been featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, Good Morning America, and Oprah’s 2016 Favorite Things. Erica’s business and products surround who she is as a person, a southern woman who loves grits and pancakes. Catering is simply how she touches people with her creativity.

The Preview Tasting
It was such an honor to have the opportunity to eat dinner and chat with this cooking star. At her preview tasting, I got a sneak peek of what to expect at the NOSH Culinary Showcase. Erica crafted her specialty Seafood Stack, which consists of a juicy crabcake on top of a crispy fried green tomato, topped with a bed of arugula and sauteed shrimp and accompanied by a side of roasted sweet corn and savory cherry tomatoes.
At Atlanta’s Black Restaurant Week, Erica will be serving up her famous Shrimp and Gritcakes! She will also feature some of her Southern Culture Kitchen Products used at the event as well. Yum!
